"Bird Of Paradise", 1932, starring Dolores Del Rio and Joel McCrea. (At right, the ad for "Bird of Paradise" playing at the local Honolulu Princess Theatre in 1933).
"Bird of Paradise" contains many of the great cliché's of Hawaiiwood movies, including having Del Rio jump into the volcano at the end, as was producer David O. Selznick's wish.Stunning 1930 audiences with apparent nudity, masking tape was used to hold a flower lei over her bare top in scenes and in underwater sequences she appeared to be swimming nude (but actually wasn't).
